Front door

I have a separate room and garage under the house however they don't have internal access. In order for us to add a set of stairs we'd probably have to loose the front door and use the hallway space leading to the front door. We'd then use the french doors as our main entry. They lead directly into the lounge and currently positioned right next to the front door.

Is this a good idea? Gaining access to the room and garage under the house, by having to sacrifice the front door and hallway or will we devalue our house too much?
