Cockatiels

Posted 1037 days ago

I have 2 cockatiels, male & female. Both approx 2yrs old in separate cages side by side. In the last 24hrs the female has laid 2 eggs and I don't know what to do with the eggs. I hope to breed them soon but don't want to do anything that will cause female to reject eggs in future.Any suggestions would be great.

Hi Nene000, throw the eggs out. She may sit on them for a while, but they will eventually rot. She may even try to eat them, which is not a habit you want her to get into. I have a female budgie that does that. Good thing I was never going to breed her anyway. When you put her together with your male, all should go well.

Hi, my cute little Cockatiel has flown away, it's now 2 1/2 days since he flew away, do you have any good suggestions of how to catch him as he does not come to me yet, how long can he survive in the wild without eating anything, he is lost also, we have put out Posters etc everywhere. I don't think I'll see him again, he also used to talk.

To petowner22sr, Hi so sorry to hear about ya cockatiel flying away thats sad, I have 8 cockatiels in my avairy I dread one of mine flying away. Unfortunatley I do not think you will get him back. Hopefully someone will see ya poster find him and get him back to you. I clip all my birds wings, both and they still fly fine in the avairy, if one gets out it may not fly too far and i may get it back hopefully. Good Luck
Cheers Flossy

if i`m reading this right ,you have 2 breeding age parrots ,which are in seperate cages and the hen has laid eggs .I am unsure at what age male Cockatiels reach a breeding age ,but the hens proximity to the mail may have triggered her to produce egg`s , these egg`s will be inferile unless the cock bird has had "contact" with the Hen before the eggs were laid ,dispose of these eggs and l suggest you get a bigger cage and put the pair together ,supply a nesting box and watch if they are compatable for each other ,I hope this helps

hi there cockatiels will breed from a year old but it is best to wait untill they are 18 months old discard the eggs they will not be fertile good luck in you efforts to breed them if you need any info log on to our website

oh and re the one that flew away if it does happen to come back try to spray its wings with a hose before you approach if its in a possie where thats possible as a bird cannot fly with wet wings hope it returns
