Dog's Eyes

Posted 340 days ago

Hi, we desperately need help for our maltese cross foxy who is nearly 12 years old. She continually gets an infected eye. We have done everything, in fact antibiotics don't even work. The vets have "given up" Natural treatments such as camomile work for a while but then its back to "square one". We are getting desperate. Anyone had this problem with their maltese? We would appreciate any help.

You could try posting your question on the Dogzonline forum. They know all about dog problems there.

Lizzy, I have a Shih-Tzu with the same problem, he is 13 years old. What we have found best to keep his eye problem under some control is to EVERYDAY wash the eyes with a weak saline solution, using a wet cotton bud to remove any excess rubbish from the eye and then use an ointment called Optimune.(Available from the Vet) This ointment is quite expensive around $70 a tube, but does seem to help. Hope this was of some help to you.

I have a maltese/shitzu that has an allergy in his eyes at a certain time of the year, it seems to be when he comes home from walkies. His eyes are almost closed and very watery but clear up next day. Yours may have an infection of some sort but you may want to look at his environment, is their something in your yard that he may be allergic to? Hope this sheds some light. I am thinking maybe allergy if antibiotics don't help much.
