A strange pair of birds

Posted 835 days ago

I have a pair of Corella's who visit my very large Jacaranda tree, they are a very ODD pair of birds. They are not white like other Corella's. I have many types of birds visiting my tree on a regular basis, Corella's, Long-billed corella's, cockatoos,Lorikeets & others just to name a few, I am sure they call my backyard a "Do Drop Inn".
The Corella's i am referring to are a Tan or one might even say they were a dirty muddy color, these pair hangout & fly with the pink & grey Galahs. I have photos of these birds as i am unable to get any info on why they are a different color.
Can anyone shed any information on these birds for me?
Thanks.

Hi Deelee,

Its possible these birds are just that, dirty. I quite often see dirty corellas around here (SE QLD). Most birds will enjoy a dust bath, helps to keep pests at bay.

It is possible for cockatoo species to interbreed with other cockatoo species. A pet shop I used to visit has a galah cross cockatoo. Very pretty bird, but she is white and apricot. But her parents were in an aviary together for years before they bred, so the chances of there being to cockatoo cross birds in the wild that have paired up would be very small, and I don't think they would be a "dirty muddy" colour either.

So I would say its a pair of corellas who enjoy a dust bath together.

They could also be bathing in dirty water, eg a dam or puddles.

These Corella's are not dirty they are just a brown in colour, they look dirty but it is their colour.
They only visit my feeder this time every year, they never hang around through the year & they look like a pair of old birds.
I luv to take photographs of my birds & I have quiet a few varities of birds that feed at my home.
They are beautiful & I just luv taking their photos.
I do have photos of the corella's that visited my feeder when the red dust storm hit....they were red!.
