Superb Fairy Wrens

Posted 748 days ago

Does anyone know why SFW's fly onto and then flutter up and down windows - or outdoor mirrors? We have a male and female pair who keep doing this on our balcony (& landing in our yukka too). We love these little birds, but the poo they leave behind is unbelievable! Any ideas about the behaviour, or how to safely deter them? Would love a poo-less answer to the problem! :-)

Sounds like typical territorial behaviour. They don't twig that what they're seeing is actually them. Any method of stopping reflection will convince them that they've "off'ed" the interlopers. Should stop after nesting time. Be thankful that it's not pee-wees or maggies slamming up against the lounge-room windows. Man, doesn't THAT give ya a right start!!

Maybe a stuffed hawk on your balcony to freak them out? Though I think it would be an odd piece of decoration...
