Mixed Aviary Colony - bird suggestions

Posted 910 days ago

Hi Everyone,
I am having an aviary built (approx: L:8m x W:5m x H:2.5) and am looking for suggestions on the best birds to keep in a mixed aviary colony.
I am located in the Central Goldfields Region of Victoria - hot summers and cold winters.
Bird noise (for our neighbours) is not a problem as our closest neighbour is a few 100m's away.
I currently have a pair of Bourke Parrots and some Diamond Doves - which live together very happily. I have also kept King Quail with them in the past.
I have looked at different fiches, "wild" budgies and cockatiels and have found a lot of conflicting information so would love to hear what you think.
Thanks in advance.
:) Caro9

hi there many birds will live happily together but will sometimes refuse to breed if housed together make sure you have more nest boxes than pairs to try and eliminate this and all species of neophemas will live happily with what you have described also cockatiels rule of thumb is to go by beak size stick to relatively the same beak size and usually no probs princess parrots will go in happily also here is our website to see what we do

Good day, I have 11 Cockateils and 12 Finches together in an aviery 1.5m x 1.5m. They are all happy little fellas. Would you believe the Finches hide under the Cockateils at night for warmth and protection. If I attempt to catch a Finch the Cockateils bombard me. There is a theory that hook beak birds (Cockateils) should never go together with straight beak birds (Finches). There is always an exception to everything. Chris
