Calming a Dog travelling by plane

Posted 790 days ago

Is there a natural remedy for calming a small dog travelling on plane. He is ok until he is in the carry cage. He howls and barks while he is in the cage.

It sounds as though he doesn't like the carry cage.
Have you tried getting him used to being in it at home and rewarding him when he is quiet in it?

When my dogs travel they have their own blankies and they go in their crates about a week beforehand with their blankies then their quite happy although the spoodle drags her blankie everywhere while on holiday.
You can get calming stuff from health food shops Valerian or Rescue Remedy all harmless and will calm your dog.
Good luck and Happy New Year!
Hope the holiday goes well.

We have two small dogs which had been born on puppy farms and brought up in cages, we had to travel to the gold coast by plane and we took the dogs, prior to our travelling we brought two cages and had them in our lounge room for at least three weeks so that we could train the dogs to go in without fear, we put their blankets and small toys in the cages and left them open so that they could go in and out at their own leisure.
Due to the distress the dogs had suffered as young pups,we took our vets advice and gave them calming tablets, they travelled well and we all had a great holiday.
P.S.may i suggest you put some unwashed worn shirt or other type of clothing with them
