I am a new member today. I have backyard chooks and three have died over the past year, one last week. Two were probably about three years old and the most recent one, 2 years. They all seemed to have the same symptoms, ie, runny poo, rather fat stomach area, waddling pigeon toed, happening in that order. One had this and got over it only to go down again about six weeks later and died. I have researched a parasite problem of some sort and also thought they might have been egg bound. I don't think it was the latter but unsure about the former. My chooks have a house to live in with perches, have a large run and have access to the backyard daily. I feed them a natural seed mix (for poultry) which has some layer pellets in it. they have grit (oyster shell I think) but don't seem interested in it. They get kitchen scraps and greens so I think I do everything right. Any ideas anybody please?

chinese chickens are the best for children which you can hold though not a good egg layer.

you may not be giving them enough of dry food e.g oats are good

also washing them once a week with a light rinse from the hose pipe and keeping their hen houses clean will solve the problem hopefully

hmmm ....give your chickens a variety of fine scraps instead of grain e.g lettuce, carrots etc

that may solve that problem hopefully
