Breeding Budgies Posted 636 days ago Hello.. my budgie has laid 8 eggs.. so far 4 has hatched but all died. They have been killed either by the father or mother. The other 4 eggs due to hatch very soon.. but i would like these to survive. How do I hatch them myself and look after them once they r hatched? Or, i do have a male budgie on his own in a cage.. is it worth fostering them to him? thnx for any help... |

RE: Breeding Budgies Posted 634 days ago The other four eggs may not hatch however before they do you should take out the male bird, that way you will find out if it's the male or female that has been killing the young. Have you got enough food in there for them? It is not easy to hatch eggs yourself without an incubator, not only does the temperature need to be correct but also to a lesser degree the humidity. If you want to hand rear them you are better off leaving them with the mother until they hatch and them take them one at a time. You still need to maintain the temperature at a constant level once removed (around 35c) when they are first removed and that temperature needs to be lowered gradually as they feather. Then there's the feeding; you realy need a hand rearing formula etc etc, too much to explain here. There is lots of info on the internet regarding "hand rearing birds". You cannot foster the young out to the other male budgie; he'll either kill them or ignore them. GOOD LUCK, Alan. |
