Mites in my chook house!!!

Posted 646 days ago

I have 6 chooks. Had them for about 4 months. They have a large house and run and are also let out for at least an hour every day. They are laying well and eating everything, BUT, there are these teeny weeny really hard to see little black bugs that get all over my hands, arms and legs everytime I go in the coop. There are thousands of them, I am scratching all the time and feel like they are still crawling on me even after I have showered. I am sure they have made their home in my house as well. I have disinfected everything and washed all my bedding and lounge suite covers. I have some spray from the local pet store that I am going to try on the chook house this weekend, he said its ok to spray the chooks too!! Anyone got any other suggestions???? Driving me insane all this itching and scratching!!!

Oh dear, you poor thing!! It sound like they could be tiny grass fleas,or maybe even aphids.
One of my chooks nested in a large pot plant once,we couldn't find where she was going. Finally found her sitting on 10 eggs, covered in tiny black bugs.
I went to the pet shop and bought some Mite Spray, bugs were gone in a day.
Bird Mite spray may be worth a try.
