Chooks losing feathers Posted 782 days ago I need advice on how to stop my chooks pecking each others feathers out. They all do it to each other and now they have no feathers on their bottoms, legs & neck and crop areas. They (4) live in a coop 2M X 2M, not draughty, not damp, clean straw on concrete floor weekly. The yard they run in has shade and is 6M X 4M, daily fresh water and a commercial mix of feed pellets (15% protien) always available.I also give them a cup of cooked rice with all the left over scraps from the previous day every morning. They are let out in the open yard for an hour each day to eat grass & scratch for bugs. I think I would like to be my own chook!! lol. |

RE: Chooks losing feathers Posted 771 days ago Your chooks do sound like they have landed on the right side of the fence indeed. I had some Lohman Browns once that pecked most of their feathers out through summer to the point where I wouldn't let anyone one go down to my chook house, where I used to invite people to see my oh so loved Lohmans. If they don't grow back for winter maybe then get a vet to check them. They are obviously excellent layers as well. If your really worried watch their combs and wattles they will start to go dark if they are unwell. |
