Pet rats

Posted 114 days ago

I have a pet rat called Ruby. I recently bought another female rat to keep her company. Every time I have tried to introduce them to each other Ruby attacks her. As a result I have had to keep them in separate cages. Is Ruby jealous? Will they ever get on with each other? I have had Ruby for about eight weeks and Snuggles for only three or four weeks. they were both babies when I got them.

That is very unusual, normally female rats are fine with each other.

Are you introducing them on neutral territory? And are you sure they are attacking? And both female?

Personally I would take them both out, and put them next to each other on your lap or somewhere simular, but give them a treat each so they are more intersted in that than each other. Chances are they just need time to get to know each other. If you have added one straight to anothers cage it could feel threatened that a stranger is in it's house.

Good luck
