Staffy with bad breath

Posted 135 days ago

I have a staffy and a retriever x, and they eat the same, share the same toys and all, but the staffy has the worst breath ever. It smells something like dead fish. I have tried to brush around his mouth, especially where the muscles are on the side of his mouth, with a plain toothbrush (no toothpaste). I give him denta-bones and marrow bones. his teeth are clean and clear but I can't get rid of this bad breath.
I remember smelling a similar smell on other staffy's that I have known in the past, and I was just wondering if there are any other staffy owners out there or anyone who might know the answer to this.
Just for reference, the other dog has no breath smells and has perfect teeth too.

Try putting your question to the forum on "dogzonline." I don't remember their addy but it shouldn't be hard to find.

Try giving him some "Yip Yaps". You can buy them at your local petstore. Here what they look like:

Parsley is natures breath freshener - I use this in my dogs food! As long as your pet doesnt have some underlying health issue (dogs can have similar bacterial gut issues to humans - including but not limited to peptic ulcers and of course halitosis)This should help - I even make my dogs peanut butter biscuits with parsley.
If you suspect a bacterial imbalance there are plenty natural remedies you can use, alternatively consult your vet if you find it very concerning.
