MIDGIES/SANDFLIES

Posted 1443 days ago

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Midgies/Sandflies. They are in my backyard and have only just arrived as I have only recently started getting bitten by them. And is it their bite that stings and makes you itch?

Well by brother has got a book called "the Dangerous book for Boys" which have a bit of information about sandflies but sadly no cure. I've read that Vinegar can get rid of mozzies so maybe it may work with sandflies.

Good luck!

The sting you experience from a midgie is not actually a bite. The midgee "pees" on the skin and it stings, that is what you are feeling. I know, I live with them and sandflies and mosquitose about 10 months a year. I believe fresh lemons partially squeezed into metho, with the lemon skins included. and left a couple weeks then put into a spray bottle and spray is supposed to work. However I believe the natural chemicals in everyones skin can make a difference to any deterrent, whether natural or chemical. Regards, Chris

We have a lot of midgies where we are and not being the back to nature type and it is just habit to spray myself with bite free or some mozzie spray before I go outside so they don,t even have a chance to start on me. If I am having a Bbq or spending time outside in the pergola then we use the sandlewood sticks that you can buy from the supermarket and they burn for different lengths of time. These I have found quite successful. If you are scratching like mad hold your arm or leg or whichever part under cold water, this takes the heat out of the area affected and should settle down,... All the best

If you want permanent relief from sand flies/midges start taking Vitamin B they don't like people who have it in their systems. I've just moved to an area where the sand flies seem to like me an awful lot and I'd never had a problem before in all my 46 years so it was a bit of a surprise to find I'm also allergic to them. The Dr prescribed heavy doses of Vit B.
