Do ALL pet turtles smell??

Posted 287 days ago

Hi,
My 7 year old son wants his own pet turtle and would like to keep it in his room. I read somewhere that the snake neck turtles have a strong odour. Can anyone tell me if this applies to all turtles or does anyone have a recommondation. Please help as his birthday is only 4 weeks away and I don't want to buy the wrong thing.

Long-neck turtles only release the strong smell when they feel threatened or are scared, with attention and handling the turtle won't release this strong odour. If you buy a turtle who has already had alot of handling you shouldnt have this problem at all!

Another turtle is the Murry-River short neck, these do not have the smell, but are a little bit harder to take care of. But if you're after a hardier turtle, i'd go for the long-neck.. he'll be eating out of your hands in no time!
