how to stop a cat weeing and getting stuck in traps and scratching couches

Posted 292 days ago

my cats (ive got 2) are always weeing in every place imaginable. near computers (its already fried one), desks, chairs, and hallways. we have got a cat cage outside (a small area surrounded by chicken fencing) with a sand box but they do their business in it but not their wee. they are both female, one shy and one angry one that attacks dogs. my cats aren't allowed outside because they keep getting stuck in traps (so far one has been caught twice and the other once costing us $300+). another thing they do is scratch our couches. we have had to put a piece of paper on the couche to make it stop.

The first step is to be sure they are not ill; take them to the vet and explain the problem.

If the problem is behavioral, and they are actually marking, use an enzyme cleaner to thoroughly clean the areas they have wet on. It sometimes helps to place a large piece of aluminum foil loosely over the area, piercing it with holes to allow air to circulate. Cats don't like the sound or feel of the foil so they may not try to mark that spot again. You may need to treat the spots numerous times until all traces of odor are gone. I think there is a spray that is formulated to mimic feline pheromones. Sometimes the behavior can be curbed with medication from your vet; antidepressants may be in order. You can't stop scratching, it is a perfectly normal behaviour. What you can do is train your cat to scratch on specifically designated objects so they will avoid ruining your furniture. Buy a scratching post from a pet shop and give it a go!

Cheers Bud.

I put it down and it worked but it found another place to wee. the other things have worked but the foil is more 50% good because it keeps floating away and although it has worked the cat still wees in different spots in the house.
