RE: Chook bedding Posted 633 days ago Chooks need perches to sleep on and nests just to lay eggs in. They usually only stay in a nest for a long time if they are getting broody. |

RE: Chook bedding Posted 612 days ago i just use long grass (hand picked and dryed) the first time i changed it (from the very old straw there owner used - i'v been hen sitting for the last 6 weeks) they pulled it out so i put it back and they pulled it out again so i left it and figured if the want a soft place to nest thell sort it out and they did. thinking that maybe there were lumps in the princess bed lol |

RE: Chook bedding Posted 586 days ago I have read that you shouldn't use hay for chooks bedding because mites can breed in it. I use newspaper with straw on top (easy to clean because you just roll up the news paper with hay and poo inside). I don't think my 4 bantam hens are using their perches they just cuddle on the straw. It cost me about $12 for the bale and I change their bedding every 2nd day and it is lasting ages. :) |

RE: Chook bedding Posted 579 days ago I do the same.Put newspaper in their bed and just roll up the poo and put it either in the bin or empty onto the vegie garden. |
