Mould inside walls

Posted 1524 days ago

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced mould inside the walls of their house? I have just moved into a rental houe and with all the recent rain, the inside of the bedroom wall has been outwardly bulging and the house smells very dank. Although the rental agent continually claims there is nothing wrong with the house, it is obvious gutter damage is causing water to run between the walls.

My partner and I have had eczema since we moved in, and we're wondering if that could be the cause. Does anybody know of companies that test household environments in the inner western suburbs of Brisbane? I'd be willing to hire someone to conduct some tests to find out why we have these allergic responses and where the smell is coming from.

I had a rental property once with really bad mould. And I got quiet sick and i put it down to that in the end for sure. It affected my breathing. Your right though about the dampness the agent tried to tell me it was the heater which is rubbish coz that would dry it out I would think and then I said well what about the bedroom then he said your hot breath when your sleeping... Can you believe that most real estate just don't want to fix anything mate. i used exit mould works a treat but air the place out it is worse than bleach... but it works... I made then take money off my rent for the cleaning products because i was doing it every couple of weeks, and normally I wouldn't care about stuff like that but because he wouldn't help.. stuff him I thought... Let the land lord know you would like someone to come in and have a look as it is affecting you and your mans health stuff that babe.... well good luck xx

Generally mould grows wherever there is a high propensity for water leaks, condensation, or humidity that is above 70 percent. When mold grows within wall cavities the nearby drywall is usually infected as well. If toxic mold does become engrained in the drywall, it should be replaced. The general way to check for mold growth inside walls is to open up walls in areas below the known roof leaks or other leaks. That can be done from the inside or the outside.
