Hippeastrum root rot

Posted 268 days ago

My hippeastrums have been flowering but I noticed some of the stems were not as long as others and the flowers on these stems were not as large as expected. Looking closer I found that the roots on the bulbs had rotted.
The area has just come through a period of no rain for 3 months. Ihave minimal watered during that time and they are mulched with sugar cane mulch.
Any suggestions

If the bulbs have rotted then it's usually a sign of too much water. Do a finger test of the soil around the bulbs before watering. Make sure that the soil is free draining. Bulbs hate sitting in waterlogged soil.

Maybe the bulbs were planted too deep.Mine are practically sitting on top of the ground and are flowering beautifully with nice long thick stems and only get watered occasionally.
