Growing Sweet Potatoes (Kumeras)

Posted 154 days ago

Can anyone help me with some information on how I can grow sweet potatoes (Kumeras) and where I can get the seed from. All attempts to get info from nurseries in the area have failed. I live on the far south coast of NSW.

hi there,
there's a great article on growing sweet potatos at this web address: http://www.tropicalpermaculture.com/growing-sweet-potat
oes.html
You can start them off with some store bought tubers. I have managed to get a few going in South Eastern Victoria, although they died back with the frost. I don't think you shouldn't have too many problems.

Sweet potatoes can be grown by letting a store bought tuber start to shoot than you cut it off and plant it and keep the runners trimmed plant in spring and dig in late autumn; Frost kills the foliage off.Best of Luck.
