How to leave your indoor plants when going away

When going on holiday what is best way to protect your plants from dying.

I generally put some water in my bathtub and stand them in that, but of course it depends how long you are going away for. I have done this when I have been away for about 4 weeks. Usually when I come home they are pretty good. It worked for me.

Thanks Davejoc, I thought this was the way to go, we may be away a little bit longer than the 4 weeks, but it looks like this is what we will do.

This is probably a little late now, but for next time, pop into your local Bunnings and buy the water retaining satchels. You just soak them in a bucket of water for 5 minutes to charge them up, and plant them into your pots. They will slowly release water over a period of time. One charge usually lasts up to 30 days, and every time the plant is watered thereafter, it recharges the satchel. I have found them to be excellent and use them even when I'm not on holidays - cuts my watering time to viritually nil.
