Grass Weed?

Posted 201 days ago

I have an awful weed that grows about 1 metre tall and has about 6 hairy long blades that are quite sharpe (not unlike bullrushes) If I manage to pull one out, which, by the way is almost impossible when they get that tall, it has a runner that goes along underground to the next one and so on. Can anyone tell me what they are and how to get rid of them once and for all. They seem to grown in amongst other shrubs which makes them hard to dig out without digging out the shrub.

It sounds as though you will have to use a weed killer on it to be sure of getting rid of it. Glyphosate is the best to use.

Just follow the directions given on the pack and be sure not to touch any of your treasured plants with it because it will show no mercy.

I can only help to remove all seed pods as they appear as well.

To identify the plant your best bet is to take one to your local herbarium or plant expert, as grasses are notoriously difficult to identify. Once you know what it is you have a better chance of knowing how to get rid of it. Glyphosate is a wonderful weed killer too. Good luck!
