Macademia tree - how to stop Nuts??

Posted 200 days ago

We have a large Macademia tree that is currently dropping alot of nuts. The problem is they are toxic to dogs and our two labrador puppies are eating them- particularly the ones the cockatoos have cracked open for them.

We love the shade and would like to keep the tree but we cannot have the dogs exposed to the nuts. Picking them up is just too hard to get them all.

Is there any way to make the tree sterile and stop producing the nuts? Or reduce the amount?

Does a net work? It seems like it will be a bit of an effort to put up - any ideas?

Try one of the dog forums. Dogz Online is one to try.

Have you tried putting pepper or chilli powder on some of the nuts, maybe quite a few and picking up the rest so the dogs are turned off eating them? Do that for a little while and the dogs should not go near them, Labs are smart!
Hope you get to keep your tree....
Good Luck.
