Gunns

Posted 91 days ago

Sorry Don, have been a big fan for many years but your decision to in anyway support Gunns has got me beat. I lived in the great state of Tasmania for years and saw with my own eyes the devastation and total moral corruptness of this company. I'm not anti logging, just the way this company does business. By aligning yourself with them I'm afraid you've lost me and, I would suggest, many of your former devotees. Good luck to you. You're going to need it.

More Gunns

Posted 91 days ago

Don, Don, Don...

Are you really going to be an apologist for a company that has abandoned proper environmental processes, plans to pump billions of litres of effluent into Bass Strait, fill the Tamar Valley with particulate pollution and divert precious water from Launceston, all so one very wealthy man can make even more money?

Forget the claims of lots of jobs for Tasmanians. Gunns has very poor record of dealing with local contractors. They are hated for their ruthless business tactics.

I saw a news article suggesting you have been brought in to counteract Peter Cundle. I'm pretty sure no-one is paying him to put forward views.

You don't live here so stay out of it. Unless you would be happy, along with every Gunns shareholder, to accept your share of the proposed pollution output, to store in your own backyard.

Joe

Gunns

Posted 91 days ago

Hello Don,

It is unfortunate that you have revealed that you are more interested in making money than caring for what Australians value and you have long professed to care about.

However I think that you will find that $$ can't buy credibility. Your credibility is now zero as far as I am concerned.

Dear Don,

I bought my very last copy of bourke's backyard 2 weeks ago. I will also encourage others to rethink buying the magazine.

How shortsighted you have turned out to be. Credibility is zero with me too.

Don Burke Gunns Mouth piece

Don what you have said has ruined your name, for all these years people have looked at you as a man who spoke a informed view on many issues. And to come out and support a mill that will cut down Tassies great trees, poison Bass straight with mill waste and stink out the Tamar valley has proven you to be a fool.
Why do we need to have this mill it will only be of benefit to a small work force and profit a few shareholders not to many Tasmanian house holds will feel the benefit and think their lives are better off because Gunns has made some money by cutting down our trees.

I am a father of 2 kids and work in construction and use timber everyday so i depend on plantation timber but i want my kids to see the wild old forests of Tassie not 100yr old re-growth or mono culture replanting.
More money can be made through tourism and looking after our forests then letting the greed of a few shape our future.

WHAT FUTURE DO YOUR KIDS HAVE IF WE USE EVERYTHING WE HAVE NOW

DO NOT SUPPORT DON BURKE OR GUNNS

Don:

You should be the last one to talk about "integrity" - why don't you ask Peter Cundell what it means - you obviously have no idea.

This decision of yours will come back to haunt you.

Shame Don shame.

I happen to live 10 mins from this proposed mill and my family including our three year old daughter will have to live with the smell of this mill and swim in the effluent of it if we go to our local beaches. Where will you be once this mill is built? You live in NSW! What right do you have?
I didn't think that you would sell yourself for thirty pieces of sliver.

Well done Don. At last someone with some practical knowledge and understanding of the environment and plants and their regrowth, etc getting involved in this huge environmental issue. You have my vote because I know you will look at all issues, particularly the environment.
Best wishes.

People in Sydney and all over Australia should be glad this water grabbing, stinking, polluting, timber hungry monstrosity is not in their state or we might see some different options. Don, you sold out to Gunns. I hope what they are paying you is worth losing your reputation for, because you surely have done yourself a lot of damage. In the present climate with water so short people in Launceston and the Tamar Valley will have to share their water with this mill, and it is a very thirsty mill at that. Our trees are going at the rate of knots and now we have mostly foreign trees here thanks to Gunns and there are tree plantations everywhere. We the people of Tasmania have no rights, Gunns has brought the Government and the Opposition, ( one board member is also a member of the Liberal Party and there is an ex Premier also on the board, so it is not exactly neutral ) the Government has spent millions of our money on this mill that is not built yet, has not even got the money to go ahead yet but that's ok because we have to have it because we are told it will be good for us. GET REAL. IT IS A WHITE ELEPHANT. ALWAYS WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE. Bye Don

Check out Don's other work as chair of the AEF - Australian Environment Foundation which might give a tip as to the effect of Don's role.

I am totally sick of apologists for Gunns harping on "WORLD'S BEST PRACTICE".This weazalwords catchphrase is also applied to coal fired power stations, proposals to drill for oil on the Barrier Reef, nuclear arms manufacture etc.etc.etc.IT DON'T MAKE IT RIGHT!!Take a walk around Burnie in Tassie and ask the locals there what they think about pulp mills.Get real,Don!Pull the ripcord while you still have time.PLEASE!!

Hi ginger. With all due respect to your thoughts on this matter, you are missing the point.Don Burk has fallen for the oldest trick in the book.He obviously believes that you need to be inside the tent to infuence matters. He has been conned by experts. When his use-by date is up,they will choo him up and spit him out.His judgement in this matter is not suspect, it is puerile!!

Don - you've lost me on this issue. A one time fan I am no more. The people of Tasmania and Australia deserve better. I am not a tree hugger but I don't believe in the mass depletion of forests and profiting from companies like Gunns. You have proved you are an elitist working hand in hand for the profit of a few. If you truly believe in what you stand for, tell us the facts - how much did they pay you? Perhaps your readers can join together and offer you a better deal!
As for me I will be looking for another website
