Can anyone help me????

Posted 71 days ago

I found these weird looking things on my property. Has anyone any idea what they are? I have looked on the internet but haven't come up with anything yet.[IMG]http://i473.photobucket.com/albums/rr93/Choppe

AT a glance it looks like a fungus (ie, member of the mushroom family) growing on the leaves.

Why don't you email it to the experts at 'Burke's Backyard' magazine? The email address for their "what plant is that" segment is

magazine@burkesbackyard.com.au

Just title your email "what plant is that", include the pic you linked to here and all the details of where you're living and any other useful info you have about the thing, and they'll do their best to help you.

Good luck (but I reckon it's a fungus, but I am also a complete mug!)

Thanks. I will try that. Haven't had any luck so far on the Internet. These things that are on the leaves look like they are made of stem material (I don't know if that makes sense, but they are like little miniture stems with those funny ends on them or just tiny holes in the ends). They are very strange.

Actually, you're in real luck Happyplanter. I emailed Don Burke about them and this is his reply:

"These are galls of a male acorn gall insect (Apiomorpha conica). The males produce the toadstool-like galls (one insect per gall) on gum leaves and the females produce more rounded galls on nearby twigs. They do little harm and are more a curiosity. Nice photo by the way." – Don
