Swimming Pool Conv to Water Storage

before putting in rainwater tanks i want to investigate if i can utilise a large inground swimming pool as water storage. what would i need to do to make it suitable ie i imagine i would need to seal it in some way before maybe putting decking over the top. what sort of treatment would the water need? any help or suggestions appreciated. I would be using the water for the garden
