Visiting Lismore N.S.W. Posted 774 days ago Hi, I come from the northern rivers, Lismore, N.S.W.
In Lismore, there is a botanical gardens[/BOLD], some rare species of trees, planted right in the middle of town, a large garden club in which members visit each others gardens, a newly formed multi-use garden, for many groups in the community, in the middle of town and many interesting nurseries and feature displays. ie. information centre, tourist areas such as national park.
There is also, a rainforest in town, and there used to be a garden festival with free plants, a [UNDERLINE]Memorial garden[/UNDERLINE] and many specialist [UNDERLINE]koala plantations [/UNDERLINE]and [UNDERLINE]bird-wing butterfly attracting plantings[/UNDERLINE]. And more.
I believe Burkes Backyard[/ITALICS] should do a special on Lismore, there is a gardening revolution and also, many protected species and wildlife to be saved, including the koala.
People are saying now 'Lismore, city of gardens' and yet, few around Australia would be aware of this transformation[/BOLD].
With many of the issues to be addressed, as such, as the flooding, and particular soil-types that can be difficult to grow many plants in. Also, mysterious dying of planted trees on the river as well.
There is a wealth of interesting information and questions, viewers cof Burkes Backyard could learn from.
There is also a great interest in local plants for the Lismore botanical garden;, [UNDERLINE]Lismore is unique, the Lismore Botanical garden is based on native rainforest local plants; with many remnants of the 'big scrub' being rehabilitated, in both parks and in peoples gardens[/UNDERLINE].
This is especially true of smaller native shrubs, and also, to create corridoors.
People are being told to come to the heart, there has to be a reason: to buy these unique plants, visit gardens, enjoy the many reserves and information sites and to visit a diverse and unique flora and fauna environment, within the city itself with their family or a group. And, for visitors to appreciate these areas, to want to come back.
For people who are interested in gardens and plants, to give feed-back about 'Lismore, city of gardens' and how important it is for growth and development of a whole community, on many levels, to have gardens., such as shade and because it is so interesting and brings shape and colour and character to a place. Also a sense of purpose and meaning, that people care, and helps protect the environment, rivers, air-quality, into the future. Could there be no other project worth as much?
