Help with Garden idea

Posted 881 days ago

In our backyard we used to have an above ground swimming pool. We have taken the pool away some years ago and we still have the area where it was.

The area is 5.2 meters round, it has the sand in the middle of it with the pavers around the outside of the circle.

I was hoping that someone may have some ideas of how to make this area a Centre piece of the back yard.

To the right of this circle we had a carport and we took one side off the carport and we turned it into an area where we have put table and chairs and indoor plants etc. And this looks out onto the back yard.

Also on the left of the circle we have a shed which looks like an old cottage with a little porch etc. And we will have chairs and pot plants on the porch of the shed. Thanks

Could pave the rest, have raised bed garden, rip it up and put grass back in.

Hard to decide, as once we go one way there is always expense that has to be disregarded when we want to do something else.

What are your feelings toward this "circle"?

My mother is a keen gardener in NZ and has a round garden which is full of succulents and cacti with huge bolders, rocks, posished stones, sand and driftwood. It is amazing the beautiful colours and exotic flowers that are possible. They are as hardy as and if they can be grown where frosts number 30 plus a year and still flower this may be a suggestion. They don't have to be unfriendly prickly plants as there is a huge range to choose from and they shouldn't be too fussy that the soil was compacted and has sand on it. If you want to soften the look you could plant lavender or daylilies around the edges.
