Tomato Pest and Problems

Posted 783 days ago

I have recently applied Blood and Bone to my tomatoes and I also apllied sugar cane mulch on top after I applied the blood and bone. After I applied the mulch and the blood and bone I noticed a rotting smell and also black flies a few days after I applied the muclh and the blood and bone. I dont know what I did wrong and how can I fix it.

FYI my tomato plants are planted next to basil, oregano and Mint.

Oh does anyone have suggestions on how to control caterpillars organically.

If you didn't well water-in the b-b before you mulched, that will explain the smell and the flies. Just peel back the mulch and give a good watering, then put the mulch back and another good watering. Blood'n bone is exactly what it says it is.

Derris Dust is good for getting rid of caterpillars. Buy from local supermarket and sprinkle after watering. Only trouble is you have to apply after rain, gets washed off.

Of all the wonderful surprises in life, none is better than seeing that first shoot tear out of the earth and form into a wonderful plant and vegetable.. .
