Meyer Lemons Posted 274 days ago I have a Meyer lemon planted in a pot on my north facing verandah, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it will take the fruit to mature, and i also read somewhere that you should remove the fruit before the first frost is this true, as a i live in a very frost prone area? |

RE: Meyer Lemons Posted 274 days ago Jane, I too have a Meyer lemon but have never removed the fruit. How old is your tree? I have noticed that they take a little longer than other lemons for the fruit to mature and ripen. If you have it in a pot perhaps you could move it to a more protected area when you get the frost. |

RE: Meyer Lemons Posted 270 days ago Jane, You can put it in the ground at any time, mine was only small when I planted it in the ground straight away. Keep in mind your frost though. Meyer Lemons don't get very big, you might want to plant it in a large tub, will survive nicely that way! |

RE: Meyer Lemons Posted 263 days ago I have heard it is helpful to remove the new fruit in the first season but only to strengthen the tree. I have an old Meyer lemon in the ground and frosts (only about 12 per winter here) dont bother it. They are pretty tough but if young, in a tub and exposed to heavy frost, I'd arrange some protection until well established. |
