Maybe it is a bad batch of seeds. I have grown carrots often in the past, however I planted carrot seeds last year over and over again but none grew. I bought a new packet of seeds and they are now growing well.

My friend the gardener says that you never keep parsnip seeds from one year to the next, no matter what is says about the use by date. So I get a new packet every year and plant the whole lot.

I start eating them at about 12 cms - thins them out too. I agree with Roger41 - sometimes cannot get seeds to grow. Did this with zucchini last year - and it usually grows like weeds.

By the way, mash parsnips with a little cream and onion salt - keep it dry, not sloppy. Amazing. Homegrown flavour is just so different to the bought ones.
