Frost protection

Posted 241 days ago

I have just finished planting out my new raised garden beds and I am wondering what I can do about protecting my vegetables from frost damage later?
I was thinking of making hessian hammock type covers - am I on the right track?
thanks
Wendy

Yes, raised hessian covers may in fact provide adequate frost protection, however given that your garden beds are raised, frost may not even become an issue (as the coldest air will naturally settle to the lowest point). A simpler method of frost protection would be to set up a misting sprinkler on a timer that activates during the early morning just before daybreak. This water acts as insulation from frost, as it will require far more energy to freeze than your vegies.
