can anyone help me with trying to grow plants in pots !? i planted parsley, strawberries and cherry tomatoes in large self watering tubs and so far, after 3 weeks, i have only 1 sprout of parsley, no cherry tomatoes and a handful of tiny little strawberry sprouts. I live in the north west of wa, and i have them situated in constant shade due to the heat. But vegies are so expensive up here i have decided to grow my own. Any help would be great, thankyou ;o)

If you can find a spot for them in the morning sun, at least, you might find the plants will be much happier. The morning sun doesn't burn as hot as the midday and afternoon sun. I know where you are coming from when it comes to protecting plants from the heat. My back verandah collects the morning sun and is a great place to grow pot plants and start up seedlings. When the weather cools a bit I tend to move the pots I have further into the sun.

Hello

I also rent, as well as pots and I have plenty, I also dig a pot sized hole in sand/clay whatever, then fill it with potting compost, on top of a bit of organic fertilizer. Advantage over pots - you don't need to buy pots - won't get root bound, and don't spend a fortune conditioning your landlords dirt. I've been in my current rental 3 months - look waht you can do in 3 months :-)
