Black beetle eating blueberrys

Posted 774 days ago

My blueberry is been attacked by some sort of black beetle it is causing alot of damage. I went out tonight with a torch to find the culprit and it seems to be these small black beetles they are all over it as it is in a pot I can stop them getting back in but I think they hide in the soil in the day what would be the best spray to spray them with I dont like to use sprays but this is quiet a bad infestation. Are they like a lawn beetle?? I cant find a picture of them anywhere although they are similar to the japanese beetle but all one color. Any advice would be great there are so many of them.

Any types of beetles are notoriously hard to get rid of. Generally you need to treat the soil with some really heavy-duty stuff. Ask at the local nursery. My two young plants in pots are o.k. re. foliage, but as the berries started to ripen, they disappeared. I suspected birds, so around went the chook wire, but to no avail. It's not snails, etc. so any advice welcome so that next year we might just get a few ourselves. Hope you don't mind me hitching a ride on your post, shellymee.

Treating the soil would be ideal but anything heavy duty worries me about the chemical effects. What I did do is go out each night and shake them off into a dish with detergent in it and so far it has worked last night there were none but it will be a on going thing.I have noticed while I was out there they are also in the lawn so I am guessing they are in the vegy patch aswell. Damn bugs! but eating home grown blueberrys mmm there is nothing like it. I never liked the shop ones.Although I feel like I am constantly fighting with the bugs.
