Complete Novice needes advice Posted 631 days ago Earlier this year I decided to create a veggie patch in a dero part of my garden. I had also decided that I wanted and organic garden, so I ordered orgainic soil from my local landscapes and got cracking. I was very sucessful at getting my seeds to germinate and got them moved into bigger pots with no fuss, but as soon as I planted them into the ground they all but a very few died off. Can someone help where have I gone wrong? |

RE: Complete Novice needes advice Posted 630 days ago I once slaughtered a variety of things by planting into a fresh delivery of good quality soil. I didn't realise it was still "working", therefor heating up enough to cook the roots. After a couple of weeks it had settled down and the next plantings were o.k. Could this be a possibility? Also, always water-in with Seasol to give seedlings a much better kick-start. Hope this helps a bit. p.s., a soil pH test kit is a very useful thing to have. |

RE: Complete Novice needes advice Posted 630 days ago Thanks Hutch, all advice is very welcome as I know nothing yet. My son is very keen to get things growing he is 13 and really into cooking (and brilliant at it he cooks nearly every night for the family) and using local and seasonal ingredients, so he is a keen helper at growing our own veggies and I am all for encouraging it. Like me he was dissapointed that the first lot didnt work. I now have one surviving tomato plant, some onions and a courgette plant still trying to grow. |

RE: Complete Novice needes advice Posted 629 days ago Yep, worms is what you want to see. To feed your veggie plants, may I suggest a mix of 2parts Charlie Carp : 1 of Seasol as per label per watering-can. The good thing is you can't over-dose with either of those products. |
