Orange Passion fruit....Me too

Posted 773 days ago

Hi, previousely someone posted a message, saying that their Nelli kelly passion fruit was producing orange fruit. They got one response asking what color it was supposed to be.Well, passion fruit is normally a dark purple to black fruit. My Nelli kelli is also producing orange fruit. Can someone out there please help us and tell us why it is doing this?

Mine has a hard purple skin on the outside and orange soft fruit on the inside. I'm sure thats normal???
However, this year the fruit is sour and a lighter orange than usual which I believe to be a lack of direct sunlight.

If you are referring to the exterior being orange that could be because it has gone back to the root stock because I think Nelly Kelly is grafted. I also have a Panama Gold which has an orange exterior too.

It's true..... WA soil is rubbish but at least its easy to dig!!

The Nellie Kelly passionfruit have an extremely invasive rootstock. It'll keep on popping up, and sending out suckers for a few meters in every direction.

Look around the base of the plant, if there are three pronged leaves, branches coming out below the graft (V shape in the base of the plant), then rip any of these branches out, and search around the plant to see if there is any random passionfruit vines popping out of the ground.

Look at the leaves of the plant, if there is different leaves, follow the leaves back to where they originate, and start ripping them out, trying to avoid hurting the grafted plant.

Good luck.
