type of soil for garden bed

Posted 188 days ago

I have a small yard and was thinking of buying a colourbond slimline garden bed with a base to use as a mobile vegie patch. I would build a timber frame to sit it on, and fix castors to move it around to follow the sun. I rang a soil place and was told because it is classed as a large pot you need to put potting mix in, not soil and compost as it will go hard. Surely good soil and compost should do the job!

For really large pots,I've found that about 30% potting mix and the rest soil /compost works well to stop compaction.
