Pruning stone fruit trees

Posted 608 days ago

Hi all,

I have a plum-cot tree (plum/apricot). I read somewhere where apricot trees liked to be pruned in early autumn, so I did. It looked really great then it started to shoot new leaves again, it still has the new leaves and I am not sure what to do now. It is like I have tricked it, will it lose the new leaves or will they stay? Will I maybe get fruit in summer (the tree was grafted and was 2 years old when I bought it)or have I completely wrecked it?

Hello,

We have tropical peach and nectarine trees. Two years in a row, whether we pruned it in autumn or not, around June the trees flower, followed by leaves. As time goes by, fruits develop and by early summer fruits are ripe. For the rest of summer there will only be leaves on the trees. We have been wondering why it flowers in winter and the leaves come out so early too...however looks like you are in a similar situation like us. Would love to hear from other people who are experiencing same problem as us. Is it because our fruit trees are "tropical peach and tropical nectarine? BTW we live in Coomera QLD.
