RE: Growing Spaghetti Marrow Posted 321 days ago You can pick them when they are a dark yellow/orange colour. That is what my mother tells me. |

RE: Growing Spaghetti Marrow Posted 173 days ago Hi, I grow spaghetti marrow and you pick them when the stem protruding from the vegetable has died. When that happens, is means that the marrow is ripe and ready to go. It is the same for all marrows and pumpkins. When you cut the stem, leave a good few centimetres on the marrow and then it will keep for ages. If you have a large cardboard box filled with sawdust, and in a cool, dark and dry place, all those marrows, pumpkins and other curcubits will keep very well for a long time except for the small ones like cucumber which have a high liquid content. It is important to change the sawdust regularly and you can also use good quality chopped straw as well. The important thing is cool, dark and dry for storage. I have been doing it for about 20 years and have kept some pumpkins and marrows for up to six months. It is the perfect way to keep those large, hardskinned vegetables. Good luck, Perregrine |
