Iceberg Lettuce

Posted 677 days ago

My Iceberg lettuce does not seem to get a firm heart. just a bunch of loose leaves, all spread out and becomming dark green and bitter.
I followed the seed instructions on the packet and planted them out in the way recommended.:-). any ideas/ recommendations/ suggestions?
I watered them every 2 days, planted 25-30cm apart in loose soil/composted manure mix (not sure of the ph balances etc)in fairly pest free raised garden bed.
My Rabbit was happy with this lettuce. so at least one happy family member.

Bitter lettuce is usually the result of lack of water, causing slow/stunted growth. If you've mulched, the water might not be getting through to the soil enough. That's about all I can offer. Good luck next crop.
