Only a few leaves left on Mango tree Posted 136 days ago I've recently moved into a house with a very sad looking Mango tree in the back yard. There is only a few leaves left on the tree & green mould on some of the trunks.
I've cleared away bricks and long grass that were placed round the base and noticed that some of the bark could be pulled away easily - it looked a bit like dry rot only wet.
I don't know how long the tree has been in this state. Seeing that there a few leaves left on the tree, I am hoping there is still a bit of life left in it.
The tree would be about 3 stories high and growing in the Brisbane bayside suburb of Wynnum. Could this possibily be a very bad case of Anthracnose and if so how would I treat this large tree with fungicide. Other trees in the area are all green and magnificant. What can I do to start healing this tree? |

RE: Only a few leaves left on Mango tree Posted 134 days ago You could try watering seasol into the drip zone in an effort to encourage root health.
As you've only recently moved in, ask the neighbours if there is anything they can think of that may have upset the tree. (e.g.New pool excavation next door, raised soil levels over the root zone, etc.) If you can, get a qualified arborist to take a look. Try contacting your nearest Horticultural school or Uni. They maybe interested in the tree from an educational perspective, and may be able to provide free advice.
I also found this very thorough website on Mango trees;
http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/man go_ars.html
Heaps of info on Mango pests and diseases.
Good luck, sounds like a beaut tree, would be a shame to lose it :-( _________ from little things, big things grow! |

RE: Only a few leaves left on Mango tree Posted 131 days ago Thanks Benh for the info. I will do the Seasol watering and what a good idea to contact a horticultural Uni. I'll check out the web site straight away. |
