Old Apricot Tree

Posted 540 days ago

Please help,
When we moved into our house 5 years ago there was an huge apricot tree, which come December produced a huge amount of fruit. We are not very good at gardening and have neglected the tree, now the last 2 years it hasnt produced any fruit.
WHAT CAN I DO TO BRING THIS TREE BACK TO ITS GLORY????

Hi Niklola

I would say your apricot tree is crying out feed me feed me. Come spring, when the leaves burst, provide a complete plant food. Your choice of organic or not. If you go the non organic route buy something formulated for fruit trees. Use this according to directions and cover with a layer of compost and mulch.

If you go the organic route place layers of compost, blood and bone, dynamic lifter around the tree right out to the dripline. If the tree is growing in lawn you will want to kill the grass around it and placing all of these goodies will do just that. As the grass dies and rots down it will provide nutrients (humus) as will the other organic material.

One other thought. It hasn't been shaded out over the 5 years? Or have you had severe frosty winters?
