PassionFruit

Posted 696 days ago

Hi Everyone, I put a standard purple passionfruit in a few months ago, it is growing like wildfire, plenty of flowers and in turn plenty of fruit, and thats where it ends the fruit seem to start of a pinky color and then just drop off? I fertilise with a dynamic lifter type of fertiliser from the local produce, seems to work ok, does anyone have any suggestions into what I might be not doing right???? thanks

We had a passionfruit planted in a certain spot in the garden and it just didn't seem to like the position. We moved in to a sunnier spot against a trellis and it has rewarded us with huge quantities of fruit. However this is the only one of about 6 plants that I have put in over the years that has actually survived.
Fruit dropping off can be due to fruit fly/mite damage, a fungal disease as well as irregular watering according to my local nursery.

They do need a fertiliser and I just give mine the occasional water with a liquid fertiliser - either a commercial blend or use some of the liquid fertiliser from the base of my Bokashi bin. However I know lots of people who don't bother with a fertiliser and just let the vine do it's own thing!

I currently have a winter crop (not that many) that is just ripening, but looking forward to another bumper summer crop of some 200+.

Iam thinking of growing a passiofruit vine on a trellis to act as a privacy screen. I'm not sure how much space i need between the trellis and the fence as i will need to get in there to pick the fruit and prune the vine when it is fully growen. I dont want it too far from the fence as i don't have much room. Any help would be great. Thanks.
