Passionfruit not setting

Posted 834 days ago

Hi all. I was hoping someone may have an answer or suggestion for me. I have a purple nelly passionfruit vine 12 months old, covered in flowers. Unfortunately, the flowers are drying out and dropping off, leaving us without fruit!!! It gets half sun/half shade. Watered once a week. Not yet fertilised, I was going to use Seasol. Can anyone suggest anything to help me, please? Thanks!! :-)

Hi Leah, I had the same problem last year and I think it was because there weren't enough bees doing their job. I have read on this site previously that you should use Thrive in the blue box for fruit and veges and also I think passionfruit need a lot more water than once a week. I give mine a soaking every day. Mine are looking considerably healthy and I am hoping for a good crop this season. I hope this helps.

Seasol will certainly benefit all plants, but it's not a fertiliser as such; more of a tonic to help root growth. The bee shortage is a bit of a worry Aus-wide, so it might be a matter of out with the old artist's brush. It would be worthwhile to check water penetration as well. If there's a problem there, a few drops of dishwash detergent per watering-can will correct that. And yes, keep the water up to them. Good luck.

Thank you davejoc and hutcho. It was lovely to receive a reply. I will certainly water more and try the blue box of thrive. I have noticed the bees haven't been around as much, so I will see how skillful I am at pollinating with a paintbrush!!!!!Hoping to see a few more bees. Thanks once again for the advice. :-)

You don't need much skill, just a lot of passion. Get it?...passion?...oh well, I tried.
