"Old Fashioned" Vegetables Posted 154 days ago Some years ago I saw an article on a tv show (not Burke's Backyard!) regarding varieties of old fashioned vegetables. There was particular emphasis on the full flavour of the produce and that many of the veges were easy to regrow from collecting the seeds from the picked veges. From memory there was a co-op / association that sold these varieties in seed form and would post the packets. I have been unable to locate any further information and would appreciate anyone being able to advise of contact details. Or if any one has had experience in growing these I'd love to hear your feedback. |

RE: "Old Fashioned" Vegetables Posted 151 days ago Ive just got some seeds from Eden seeds and they were reasonably priced.actually they were cheaper than Diggers. Ive grown a few heritage veg and they were quite okay. I grew a siberian tomato and it cropped madly and withstood the cold well until the frost hit.moon and stars watermelon and a variety of rockmelon etc also performed good. You can order online with both suppliers. |

RE: "Old Fashioned" Vegetables Posted 150 days ago Thanks for that! I have looked at both Diggers Club and Eden Seeds sites and have subscribed to be able to receive the newsletters & catalogues. I just believe that there has to be benefit in trying these varieties with the view of being able to self propagrate. And it has got to be a great learning curve for youngsters (I have a 7 year old) on how things grow and how the seeds can be kept and replanted. |

RE: "Old Fashioned" Vegetables Posted 102 days ago I have also bought many seeds from eden seeds, always with success. I have also bought from their sister company which sells organic seeds (there is a link on their site). They sell non hybrid varieties of seed and they are around $3 for a small packet at Eden Seeds. |

RE: "Old Fashioned" Vegetables Posted 100 days ago There's an article on heirloom vegies in the latest issue of Burke's Backyard (the September issue), and it includes lists of seed companies who specialise in them. |

RE: "Old Fashioned" Vegetables Posted 96 days ago Know what you mean ria13. Vegies in shops is all about storage and transport, and the varieties that store well and transport well often taste crook, or at least ordinary. |
