no olives on my tree

Posted 150 days ago

Hello to all, i live in Wollongong, in the front yard I have an olive tree about 8 years old planted by the previous tenants. Unfortunately I can’t get it to grow any olives and the ones that do grow maybe 10-20 olives just fall off the tree, any suggestions would be great- the olives are green

I am sure you'll get a lot of posts on this one but what i suspect is happening is that your tree may not have reached maturity and is not quite old enough to produce. If it is only 8 years old it may have a little while to go yet.
And Olives in my experience only produce every second year so what you may have seen is the first year which is a light crop which should then be followed by a heavy crop and so on. Your tree is probably quite ok just a little too young.

Olives also like plenty of lime in the soil, and they don't like other plants growing underneath them, in their root zone. The east coast also isn't the best olive-growing climate. Olives like wet winters and hot dry summers, and on the east coast we have wet humid summers that don't suit. This year, with a complete drenching in February, was a lousy time for east coast olives.
