RE: Mulch for Vegie Garden Posted 106 days ago You could try sugar cane mulch as it's light and fluffy. There's barley straw or pea straw but they're much the same as Lucerne to work with. You could try using mushroom compost or other organic matter to improve your soil. |

RE: Mulch for Vegie Garden Posted 103 days ago I'd agree with sugarcane mulch.Easy to spread and breaks down nicely.Only mulch I use since I found it.If you sprinkle a little Dynamic Lifter or similar around and put the mulch over the top of that,it greatly helps to conserve soil-Nitrogen as the mulch breaks down. |

RE: Mulch for Vegie Garden Posted 97 days ago Not sure what is readily available in Melbourne, but I use nothing but Sugar Cane Mulch in all my gardens, my raised vege beds to my flower beds. Holds the moisture in nicely in the hot Qld climate and as the others have said, breaks down nicely. Very cheap too, you can do a big area with one big bag for about $10. |
