Poinsetta

Posted 330 days ago

I was given two poinsetta's for Christmas, I am not sure whether to plant in my clay soil or plant in two pots? In my area there are couple of poinsetta bushes but they are estabished and this is in the middle of the summer, and I am not sure they would survive.

You are probably wise to delay planting out if you are in a very hot area. Use this time to improve your planting patch so they have a better chance of surviving. They would also be good in large pots so the choice is yours.

i dont like those poor poinsettias sold in pots and which are artificially induced to flower in our southern hemisphere christmas in summer....
poinsettias are winter flowering plants and when grown naturally in the garden they flower in winter...
the summer flowering christmas potplants are grown in artificial temperatures and controlled lighting so the poor plant thinks it is winter and starts flowering.... sort of like plant abuse...
they never make good garden plants as they have been weakened and upset by the atificially induced flowering....
throw it out and buy a regular poinsettia from a good nursery and it will flower only in winter...
