To tell the truth, my grass (Kikuyu) is not dead anywhere, but is the lushest and best looking at the edges too.
Probably better water supply and better protected from elements, possibly roots better protected, maybe even more nutrients available.

Did you have frost by any chance?

Quite possibly lawn beetles? We used to have a lot of them in our lawn, medium size black beetle. I think they lay there eggs under ground and then the larvae eat out around the nest site which used to leave dead circles all over the lawn. If it is you'll see all the beetles once the surface. I think you can get a powder like ant dust to kill them.

buffalo is a very tough plant and with the right treatment should bounce back in no time. Ours always does any way. Try top dressing it with a premium mix. bunnings do a 25L bag for $5.89, which we used on ours, and it will be green in no time. Aslo plenty of water. Once it gets established its best only watering early mornings, and a good deep water once week to encourage stronger roots.
