Transplanting a frangipani

Posted 149 days ago

Could some body please help? I want to move a frangipani in our garden. Is winter the best time for this and do i need to prepare the move months in advance. i also have one growing through the pool fence. I was thinking of cutting the fence(removing the fence anyway) or cutting the branch off and replanting it as a cutting. If i want to raise the garden bed will i have to raise the frangipani aswell or will it handle having some soil around its trunk?

It's best to move Frangipani's in late winter (August in Sydney). At this time of year the plant is dormant. Take as big a root ball that you can, the bigger the root ball the greater chance of success. No need to water the tree after transplanting.

With the Frangi cuttings you should put them out in the sun on a hot tin roof if possible for 2 weeks before planting them. This allows the milky sap to dry out at the point where the branch was removed and the cutting will compartmentalise preventing rot.

Do not raise the soil level around your tree as this will suffocate the roots. Roots need Oxygen. If you decide to raise the plant you should do that in August too.
